Anniversaries

The years tick by. The people slam their doors in my face. It never ends. I am exhausted from fighting to get absolutely nowhere but further behind. I am controlled and contained by everyone. I don’t have choices or a future. I am silenced by all to keep the horrific truth from being told. I will never see justice. I must escape to find freedom. They won’t let me escape though. I must keep trying to find a way out.

My shackles and chains grow heavier. They will surely drag me under with each new collar of injustice being added. Each collar gets heavier, thicker and more suffocating. I don’t know how I am still able to catch a breath before the next wave carries me under. Maybe I won’t be fortunate to fight to the surface in time for that next breath. I never know. I just know that I will finally be at peace on that glorious day. This world is not for me.

I am proud of my unique American identity. I am a proud survivor of human trafficking and a fighter for the abused and vulnerable of all kinds. No human should ever know the horrors of enslavement nor abuse of any kind. We MUST end the cycle of abuse. There is no greater gift we can give humanity.
