March Towards Justice
My name is Darcy Mohamed. I am a proud Muslim American and an even prouder human trafficking survivor.
Today I celebrate the Islamic holiday of Ashura commemorating the battle of Karbala. Zainab bint Ali’s jihad al-kalimat, war of words carry a special significance for me as a survivor who is still fighting for justice; freedom for my people and the very soul of America. I am still marching forward in my shackles and chains telling all the truth of what happened to the martyrs, myself and others. I am still marching towards those who refused to hear our pleas; allowed the slaughter, rape and pillaging of the innocent; and demanded our fealty.
I march towards our nation’s Capitol and the United States Congress. I march towards those who appeased, aided and abetted terrorists both foreign and domestic. I march towards those who backed down in the face of the enemy. I march towards freedom for not just America but humanity itself.
I march forward as the proud warrior daughter of a Vietnam Veteran who received the Purple Heart for his service and sacrifice. I march forward as he and other brave Americans taught me, not with the rifle of a sniper like my daddy but with the truth of my words. My words carry more power than our brave; the fists of Mohammed Ali; the words of Malcolm X and the love of Dr King because I learned from them. I learned from the greatest.
As the men who served during war told me, a woman who is fighting for her survival and that of her family is far more dangerous than any military man with his strength, training and weaponry. A military woman both on and off the battlefield is both feared and revered. She is a breed unto herself because as a woman she won’t back down and fights knowing that
Every life matters, especially yours.
God bless America and especially Her people.
