Hate

Hate
Dary Mohamed

Hate is full of excuses for its own lack of self worth. It tears down the beauty of another’s self worth under the mistaken belief that it proves its own worth. It is merely a race to the bottom though. It promotes more and more depravity the more entrenched it becomes. Nothing is seen as problematic. The pain and suffering is nothing. The death and destruction is nothing. It simply excuses its depravity with more and more outlandish lies while downplaying the misery and suffering until its civilization collapses.

This is where we find ourselves. We are watching our own civilization collapse before our very own eyes. I believe that we are fortunate though. We are also seeing the cracks form and grow larger in the impenetrable wall of hate that envelops us. We are waking up and seeing the excuses as the lies they are. We are waking up to our own hypocrisy and hate.

We once knew for a fact that African Americans were beneath us. We heard our preachers sanctify this fact. It was so true that even African Americans believed it. Then we started to see African Americans and ourselves for who we truly are, humans. Hate has a need to have us believe the lies even when the truth is seen with our very own eyes though.

We knew that the few African Americans who were better than a few of us were just an anomaly. They’re one of the good ones. A genetic fluke. Hate needs to be right so it made the lives of African Americans far more difficult to keep the truth from being seen or spread.

When Dr King and others shown their presence, marched and lived their lives while speaking the truth with calm, undeterred resolve, the hate swung hard to stop the truth from spreading. We saw everything though. We saw the water hoses; the attack dogs; the beatings; the bombings; the lynchings and their suffering. African Americans held a mirror up and we saw our ugly truth staring us in the face.

Today, our hate isn’t just for African Americans anymore. We have gone through a long list of those who are beneath us as more and more hold up their mirrors to us. We have grown so immense in our determination of making our hate justified that we are all holding up our mirrors.

The hate has no place to go but inward. When it is pointed inward, we have no choice but to resolve the hate within ourselves. Once we do that, we are all better for it. So keep holding up your mirrors; walking with pride; and resolving the hate within. We will get to the promised land together. It’s the only way because

Every life matters, especially yours.

God bless Nebraska and especially Her people.
