Survivors

I support the victims and survivors of abuse. It doesn’t matter what kind of abuse one has endured. We’ve all experienced it at some time. It’s a part of life.

I endured numerous kinds of abuse before being trafficked. It helped me remember that I can survive and come out stronger than ever because I’ve done it before.

Nobody did the work for me. Others merely supported and encouraged me to the best of their abilities. They reminded me that I was strong enough to survive so I am strong enough to thrive. I can do it and so can everyone else.

We humans instinctively know when something is wrong. We act in a way that is decidedly human to try to protect ourselves. We seek out those who we think are safe and try desperately to be sure that we can trust them.

Building trust is the most difficult part of escaping abuse. We tend to lack confidence yet act confident. We wince at constructive criticism yet are abusive ourselves. It takes an entire community of people supporting us, allowing us to trust them and reminding us that it will get better.

It will get better because all humans throughout time have endured and persevered, many times through far worse. It’s in our DNA. It’s what makes us human. We support each other not only because we have been through it too. We do it because we understand. We know that

Every life matters, especially yours.

God bless Nebraska and especially Her people.

I am proud of my unique American identity. I am a proud survivor of human trafficking and a fighter for the abused and vulnerable of all kinds. No human should ever know the horrors of enslavement nor abuse of any kind. We MUST end the cycle of abuse. There is no greater gift we can give humanity.
