American Politicians
I am tired of politicians who don’t speak with their constituents; debate issues with anyone; or even explain their positions, actions, votes or even how the government works to their constituents in a way that they can understand. They simply negotiate what their ultra wealthy and corporate donors want, which is usually the opposite of what their constituents need or want. They have completely shut out their constituents. When our Constitution begins with ‘We the People,’ they have failed us in the most un-American way possible.
This isn’t an issue of left vs right; Democrat vs Republican; North vs South; East vs West; nor The Coasts vs The Heartland. We have all seen politicians of every variety sell out the American people for their big donors and outside interests. We have gone to war and committed atrocities for their benefit. Our beloved military family has been suffering, dying and living with guilt and shame they needn’t carry because a donor wanted to negotiate a deal; corner a market; exploit resources; destroy their competition; cover their crimes; or commit crimes against humanity.
These deplorable actions have been our downfall. We are no longer the shining beacon on a hill, guiding the way. We are the terrorists we once fought against. We are the dictators we sought to overthrow during the American Revolution. We are the enemies of the world.
We needn’t carry that shame nor guilt either. Our votes don’t matter when all candidates are bought and paid for by wealthy donors. When they are all dishonest; seek fame and fortune; and appease outside interests, the people are silenced.
We must rise up together and demand that every politician be honest, transparent and accountable. We must demand that our voices be heard. We must demand explanations in clear, direct, understandable language. We must demand healthy debates, not to score points but to hear all possible sides to an issue so that the best decision can be made.
We the people have been complacent at times because we have been shut out for so long by so many. It is time that we demand answers from our politicians and reply with our votes. We mustn’t stop there though. We must demand that the winner work for the people, as intended by our Constitution, not their wealthy donors.
Because, as I always say,
Every life matters, especially yours.
God bless Nebraska and especially Her people.
