Happy Father’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day!
Darcy Mohamed

I have spoken much about the man who raised me and earned the title of Daddy. I wasn’t raised exclusively by my daddy though. I have had numerous men who have helped influence, shape and mold me into the proud woman I am today. I wouldn’t be who I am without them.

A person doesn’t have to be a father to help raise, nurture, educate and support someone. They don’t even necessarily need to be an adult nor amazing at it. They simply have to be involved.

While I have lost all of my family and friends, I have so many incredible men who surround me and serve in the role of father for me even at 51. The sweet boy who helped me be understood through my various bits of language and amnesia. The man who brings his puppy for me to pet while looking out for me. The man who has jokes and silliness to brighten my day. Those who remind me of my roots, beliefs and strength. The service members who remind me of who I am; what I stand for and that I am safe with them.

I am fortunate to have so many good men around me this Father’s Day. They may not be my father but they have been there for me in both big and small ways. They are helping to make me even better and stronger than ever. I am truly blessed and grateful to all men who do their best to make the lives of not just me but everyone better. You may not be perfect but only God is. You carry God in your heart though. That’s more than enough.

Happy Father’s Day! Thank you for all that you do because we both know that

Every life matters, especially yours.

God bless Nebraska and especially Her people.

I am proud of my unique American identity. I am a proud survivor of human trafficking and a fighter for the abused and vulnerable of all kinds. No human should ever know the horrors of enslavement nor abuse of any kind. We MUST end the cycle of abuse. There is no greater gift we can give humanity.
