Debate Questions Answered
As a political geek, the debates being held in Nebraska have certainly caught my eye. I absolutely love debates except for the theatrical ones. The fact that Pillen refuses to debate proves that he lacks the necessary skills and knowledge for the office he currently holds. That he calls debates in general political theater is a bit ironic in my opinion.
The theatrical ones I speak of have candidates who refuse to answer questions, stay on topic, blatantly lie and act childish. That doesn’t seem like anything the Governor’s opponent would do or get away with in the slightest. Most are actually very enlightening for voters.
I read an article in the Nebraska Examiner about the upcoming debates with some sample debate questions included. I can’t resist a challenge; an assignment; nor an exciting debate. I shall answer those questions for fun, not that anyone asked.
Here we go:
Yes or No. Did Joe Biden legitimately win the 2020 presidential election?
Most definitely yes. While I had no doubt when the race was called, the unbelievable amount of money wasted on countless recounts, lawsuits, hearings, etc over the past six years has more than proved that Biden won.
Was the recent debacle at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool the result of vandals? If yes, what’s your evidence? If no, what was the cause?
The government hired a contractor who did horrible work on a job that wasn’t necessary nor prudent. In order to cover up this fact, the administration did its usual deflection and passing the buck. At least the charges are currently dropped. Less money wasted by this horrific administration.
Are vaccines in the U.S. safe and effective? Please explain.
Yes. I trust the majority of global scientists, researchers and doctors who have dedicated their lives to science and technology who after decades of scientific research and evidence have proclaimed them safe and effective.
A congressional committee recently voted to hold Dr. Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress after he evoked his Fifth Amendment right when testifying before the committee. Do you agree with that decision and if so, are you saying Fifth Amendment rights should be negated when someone testifies before Congress? (Hint: They’re not.)
I don’t agree that Dr Fauci should have even been brought to testify in the first place. It is simply political theater to create distractions, disinformation and scapegoats to cover up their own incompetence. I support anyone’s decision to evoke their Constitutional rights, especially in this farcical case.
I want to mention that as an ME/CFS patient, my community has had a dislike of various decisions Dr Fauci made in the past concerning our disease, research, funding, etc. His work during the COVID pandemic was above reproach in my opinion and many others in my community who had a strong dislike of him before then. Pissed us off.
Thank you for your service, sacrifice and dedication, Dr Fauci. I’m alive today because of your leadership during the pandemic and was repeatedly vaccinated with great relief as an immune compromised, very severe ME/CFS patient.
Do you believe in the birthright citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment and, if not, how would you determine citizenship?
I not only believe in it, I see the disastrous consequences if it were to be reversed through a Constitutional amendment.
My great grandparents emigrated from Prussia. Am I still a citizen? If not, I have an ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War. Can I be a citizen now?
Whether we appreciate being born in our pluralistic country or not, one person or group doesn’t make these decisions. We, the people, all of us, make these decisions after long and careful consideration. These nonsensical statements by politicians and others are merely political theater to distract us from our true problems.
As a side note: My ancestor fought against the monarchy 250 years ago. Our service member family has been fighting dictatorships, tyrants and bullies ever since, including our own. I am deeply disappointed and ashamed at our administration for their treatment of our family. I along with true patriots support our troops, veterans and families. We wish them the best in these horrific circumstances and echo their cries.
Bring our troops home NOW, Mr President, especially those aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln! Semper Fidelis! I like my father am always faithful to our troops. Do likewise, Sir. You are the Commander in Chief. Act like it, Sir.
In the last 10 years in Nebraska, out of the estimated 64% of high school students who participate in sports, a number in the several hundreds of thousands, how many transgender students have petitioned to play school sports? (Hint: It’s 8.) So why the inordinate focus on it?
The focus is Governor Pillen and other’s political theater. It is a distraction from their horrific policies that have gutted our state and nation. They refuse to acknowledge our true problems honestly so they distract and create drama to remain relevant as the ship is sinking.
We queer folks, disabled folks, poor folks, Muslims, immigrants, melanated, etc are a minority. We have never been the problem. We are easily kept in check with our laws that are designed for all of us, not just certain ones. It’s disgusting when politicians alter them, manipulate them or don’t justly apply them to their own benefit.
What’s your primary source of information and news?
I guess that I’ll go with the Apple News app. I have the major Nebraskan, national and international news outlets in one place. It’s rather convenient. I also talk to people about what’s happening here and around the world. Those are my primary sources. I went over. Ooops.
Is the detailed study of slavery and its consequences in the U.S. imperative to understanding American history? Why or why not?
Most definitely. You can’t study history without knowing all of the various factors and people that were involved. I was born in Detroit and married two men born in Africa but my Plymouth-Canton public school education was in a then mostly White exurb of Detroit. As a decidedly White Protestant girl, I had seemingly nothing to gain from African American history. I even married my decidedly White high school sweetheart at 20.
It was those lessons though that taught me to hold my head up high after 9/11 as my family, friends and neighbors turned against me in pain, anger and despair. Those lessons taught me to use every possible opportunity to educate others instead of reacting in anger.
They were also instrumental in my survival, escape and campaign for justice as a slave, a human trafficking survivor in a sundown town as a lone, severely disabled Muslim American woman whose mom was murdered and young, White children were threatened with prostitution.
I would say that African American history especially is instrumental to the education of every American. I would also argue the same for the Indigenous people of the Americas; Asian Americans; Queer Americans; European Americans; etc. We are all an integral part of the fabric of our nation and world. We all matter.
Recent research concluded that we are reading fewer books than ever. The first week in October is Banned Books Week. What banned books have you read? What book — banned or not — are you currently reading?
I did a quick search and discovered that I have read many of them. Many while in my public school library or classes. That might explain a few things.
The most impactful for me personally was Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. I am very careful with my books but my copy was well worn. I was in Forensics in high school. I took various parts of her novel and compiled them into a recitation that I used during competitions. It was more difficult than Edgar Allen Poe’s poem The Raven but it was always well received even if I flubbed my lines.
I regret to say that I am not currently reading any books. I have been concentrating on my own writing and news from around the world and right here in Fremont, Nebraska.
Congratulations to the soon to be new Dodge County Sheriff, Logan Kampschnieder. I pray that you have a long and honorable career, Sir. Thank you, your men and interim Sheriff Bob Reynolds for your service, sacrifice and dedication to our community, our Constitution and the laws therein.
